Who is likely to benefit?

Dark coarse hair often provides a clearer target than very light, grey, or fine hair. The clinician should assess the treatment area and choose a device suitable for your skin tone. Sudden or unusual hair growth may need medical assessment before cosmetic treatment. Ask whether the expected result is reduction rather than complete permanent removal and how maintenance may differ by body area.

Why repeated sessions are needed

Laser energy is absorbed by pigment associated with the hair and converted into heat that affects the follicular target. Hair follicles cycle through different growth stages, and not all hairs are equally susceptible at one appointment. Repeated sessions aim to treat additional hairs as their cycle makes them suitable targets. This is why daily or closely repeated sessions do not simply compress an entire course into a short holiday. The contrast between hair pigment and surrounding skin also affects device choice and safety. White or grey hair provides little pigment target, while very fine hair may respond differently from coarse hair. The outcome is generally described as reduction rather than guaranteed elimination of every follicle.

Prepare without removing the target

Clinics commonly provide shaving instructions, but waxing or plucking can remove the hair structure being targeted. Follow the specific preparation advice rather than assuming all hair-removal methods are interchangeable. Disclose recent tanning, skin irritation, medicines, and previous burns. Avoid booking over an actively inflamed or infected area without assessment.

Safety during and after treatment

Eye protection is essential. Temporary redness and swelling around follicles can occur; burns, pigment changes, and scarring are possible. Some areas may develop unexpected increased hair growth. Ask who will operate the device and how settings are selected. Obtain instructions for sun exposure, exercise, deodorant, and skincare according to the body area. Blisters or severe ongoing pain should prompt contact with the clinic.

Make the timing practical

Sessions are spaced to address different hair-growth cycles. The appropriate interval is individualized, and several sessions may be required. Ask whether your travel plans support this schedule or whether treatment at home would be easier to maintain. Compare the actual area covered and the device, not just a “full body” package label. Keep treatment records so another clinician can understand the previous approach.

Hair characteristics influence the plan

Ask the clinician to examine the thickness and color of the hair in each proposed area. Fine facial hair can behave differently from coarse underarm or leg hair, and a broad package may include areas with little likely benefit. Grey, white, or very light hair may be a poor laser target. If hair growth has recently changed, discuss whether an underlying condition should be assessed. A realistic plan identifies which areas are worth treating and which are better managed with another method rather than promising uniform results over the whole body.

Questions about device selection and operator experience

Ask why the chosen wavelength and cooling method are appropriate for your skin tone. A clinic may own several devices, but the important issue is how the operator selects and adjusts them. Tell the clinician about previous laser reactions and any areas that have become darker after irritation. Treatment over tattoos or uncertain pigmented lesions needs specific consideration. Do not judge safety by whether the session feels painless; appropriate energy, cooling, eye protection, and skin assessment are more meaningful than comfort alone.

Compare a course you can actually complete

A quotation should define the exact boundaries of an area, whether shaving or consultation fees are separate, and what happens if a session is postponed because of tanning or irritation. Ask whether maintenance is likely and how sessions are scheduled around hair growth rather than your travel convenience. If you will continue at home, keep the device and settings record where available. Starting in Korea is not automatically more efficient if the remaining course is difficult to coordinate or a local clinic needs to reassess the plan from the beginning.
